Speaking at Southern Miss

USM coverThe best part of my job is working with a campus and a group of women for a few days to help them accomplish their goals and feel confident! This week I traveled to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to visit with the amazing Panhellenic women at Southern Miss!  SMTTT! (Southern Miss To The Top – it is their rally cry).  Here were some highlights from my trip!

  1. The women I met! I absolutely adore the College Panhellenic Council (CPC) officers I got to hang out with and enjoy meals with! They are all so confident, fun, funny and kind people. I laughed, I was included in jokes, and I would totally hang out with them again! The Panhellenic Advisor, Megan is also hands down one of the funniest people I have ever met. I also got to meet with the VP -Recruitment from each chapter and the Gamma Chi’s (Recruitment Counselors) which was amazing! This community is full of high quality women! Absolutely a community I would recommend joining!
  2.  The college town boutiques! Anyone who knows me knows I love to shop at local boutiques. It is one of my favorite things to do when I have time to kill! Here were the shops I visited and a quick description of them if you ever visit Hattiesburg and want to check it out: Fetiche – Really cute dresses, rompers and jumpers.  A lot of solid colors and great stuff by the brand lush. The Abbey – A lot more flowy patterns and bright colors, awesome necklaces and really adorable gifts (mugs, key chains, and accessories). Thyme – Very flowy, chill, Free People vibe going on here. Less dresses but perfect college campus attire. Thyme carried OTBT shoes which I saw all over Hattiesburg if you are trying to keep up with the fashion trends I would check them out!I only bought one item on my trip from The Abbey. I purchased an awesome pair of high-waisted chambray wide leg trouser, which will be perfect with a white off the shoulder top or a bell sleeved top!
  3. The local food and restaurants! Two great coffee places – one drive through shop oatmealthat reminds me of Seattle coffee stands, called Java Moe’s where I ordered a sugar free White Chocolate Americano – Perfect afternoon Pick me up. The other coffee place is where I would study if I went to school at USM, called Java Werks – right across the street from campus and this where I got my coffee after my morning run (they have my favorite oatmeal brand, Modern Oats – see pic)! For meals – the last time I was in Hattiesburg I ate at a place called Patio 44 which was a game changer. We sat outside and I ordered the red fish which was delicious. The appetizers are incredible – I recommend the fried green tomatoes. For this trip I had lunch at the Depot Coffee House & Bistro and ordered the spinach salad with a pile of the chicken salad on top, with a side of the gouda cheese grits … YUM!  Finally for dinner last night, CPC took me to this FUN burger place called Ed’s Burger Joint. It is brand new and feels like a beach! They play funny cat videos on the TV monitors and have amazing milkshakes! We ordered the Cap’n Crunch Crunchberries shake and shared it as a table!

I am so fortunate to see the world they way I do. I am also constantly thankful for the kindness of the amazing women who host me on every campus I get to visit.
