This entire blog post was a brainchild of my company’s founder Matt Mattson… so please feel free to tell me if you like it! This is a “Why should I? / How to?” post about Snapchat! I have recently reinvigorated my desire to not suck at Snapchat so this is my desperate attempt to get some help. If you recently were added by me and thought to yourself ‘Welcome to the party, KJ…’ I apologize. I am a little late to the game, but I am here now. Be my friend: KJ-McNamara. Here are my quick tutorials on Snapchat:
- For all of you out there who are wondering, “Gross, why would I ever?” Here is why you need to figure this out. The new generation (after Millennials) ‘Gen Z’ is what we are calling them… are obsessed with Snapchat. It is quick, fun, interactive and easy to stay up on the people you want to. The new generation of kids want to see the behind the scene/making of the process not just the perfect final version. It removes all of the fake perfection of Instagram filters and allows you to be more than just edited. People today are deactivating their Facebook accounts in mass quantities while thousands turn to Snapchat. If you want to stay relevant, you have got to hop on the bandwagon. This might not be a trend.. it might be a clue of what is next.
- It is common knowledge that Snapchat is hands down the least intuitive app in all of social media. Just about month or so ago, Wired released this article for all of us to get with it. You want to know what else was hard to figure out… computers…. get over it. It is also interesting that most people in their pre-teens, teens and early 20’s are completely competent in the medium but there is a line in the sand after a certain age. It is literally dividing the Millennial generation. So if you are an avid Snapchatter, help an older person out… and if you are ‘above it all,’ ask for some help.
- Here is my basic Snapchat knowledge: When you open the program you will come to the “take a photo” screen. Take your picture… by hitting the button. If you want to put words into your snap click the big “T” up in the corner… keep clicking it to change fonts and colors. Also, the kids these days love to write on their page. You can too by clicking on the pencil after you take your photo in the upper right hand corner. When you are satisfied with your video or your pic, you can decide what to do next. You can share it with one specific person (or group of people) by selecting them on your contact list. Or post it on your story. Your story will be able to be viewed by anyone on your Snapchat contact list for 24 hours. Here is my advice: Start snapping back and forth with one person or two (forgiving and patient friends) then check out other contacts stories, so you know what is story appropriate, funny and desirable for a snap story. You can do it… If you need help, I will be your friend! You can find me at KJ-McNamara.
Today I will be snapping all day! Follow along with my story, I will be previewing a sneak peak for my first ‘how to,’ blog for tomorrow! Give me any advice you have! I am so excited to not suck at this! And finally… Be my friend: KJ-McNamara
