A Perfect Vacation – Wine Country

IMG_2049One of the most amazing things I have ever done in my adult life is go to wineries. I have been to a few wineries in North Georgia – Dahlonega. I have been to a few in Missouri and now obviously Washington! Yesterday I gave you my advice for the actual event itself… Today I just wanted to tell you how I prepare, who I pick to go with and my favorite itineraries! So here is what I LOVE about wine tasting:IMG_2063

  • People: You have to pick the right people to go with! This will make or break your adventure!  Over this week I went with my good friend Sam and her awesome husband Mike.  These people are  the perfect people to choose! They are laid back and we did not get too committed to a schedule. When you are doing wine tastings, you have to just let it roll. Mike and Sam were perfect because they grew up in the middle of Washington Wine Country and are basically locals! They know all the major hits and the local secrets! I have also been to wine country with large groups of girlfriends… WHICH IS PERFECT as well! This is an excellent girls weekend trip! People always think wine country is romantic… but honestly it is beautiful and not an ABSOLUTE date vacation. (PS – Great to see Mike and Sam get excited about the blog! HAHA, it was not long before they were making suggestions and helping with picture angles!)IMG_2084
  • Accommodations: To be honest… Sam did all of the planning for this trip and picked an AMAZING Air B&B type situation! We stayed in an apartment right on the runway of the airport in Walla Walla, WA. Now you are probably thinking “Right on the airport runway… how noisy”… no you all. This is not the Atlanta Airport… There are only three commercial flights a day. It is also smack dab in the middle of a neighborhood that is home to over 20 tasting rooms and the best coffee shop in town. They had beach cruisers you could take out to the tasting rooms and bike home from!  HEAVEN!  Most importantly, when you go on any wine trip you will  begin your search for a place to rest your head at hotels, but I absolutely recommend a home rental of some sort for one MAJOR reason… Common areas. When you are in a hotel it becomes much less a group experience because everyone goes to their bedroom at the end of the night. We stayed up and chatted each night in the living room, until I fell asleep writing my blog on the couch!IMG_2059
  • Clothing:  Duh. I think planning what you will wear is almost as fun as the pictures!  I am posting all of my outfits at the bottom of today’s blog so you will be able to have access to everything I wore. In the summer months of course you want to wear flowy dresses and rompers, sandals and wedges, because you will most likely be in the sun. I also always associate any wine events with whites, neutrals and cognacs. I LOVED the leather jacket I wore (it is sold out online but I found you a similar one). I just cannot imagine wearing black to wine country ever. Obviously the Fall is one of the best months to do wine country because of the sweaters, boots, hats and layers!  I might have to make another trip this October just for the clothing!

Enjoy the pictures!  Let me know if you have any questions!  I LOVED my trip!  I would absolutely recommend:
